To most people, being healthy is to have that great body and sexy looks. Well, I would say that a healthy lifestyle requires a lot more than your looks. Being healthy is striking a balance physically and mentally. It is based on many things including your genetics, diet, exercise routine, and lifestyle choices. Because you cannot control your genetic makeup, it is important to make changes to items you have control to attain a healthier lifestyle.

Living a healthier life requires making some adjustments in a wide variety of areas. It requires a lot of discipline and determination for you to achieve it but be sure that it is worth the effort.

How To Start a Healthy Lifestyle at Home

  • Drink More Water: Make an effort to drink lots of water. Water is essential to healthy living as it keeps the body hydrated. Dehydration has a series of side effects which may include chronic headaches, fatigue, and afternoon fogginess. Your daily required water can be obtained from consuming: flavored waters, decaf coffee, and decaf tea.
  • Take your measurements regularly:  It is important to keep a constant check on your body. Measuring your weight and overall size can give you some insight into whether or not your body is healthy as well. Take note of when you are overweight and underweight by comparing it with the standard measurements. A large waist may mean you have a high amount of visceral fat and this could be dangerous to your health. Men should have a waist circumference less than 40″ and women should be less than 35″.
  • Be Cautious of Food portion sizes: Pay attention to the nutrition information and calorie count on food packaging. Be sure you’re checking portion sizes so as not to eat more than you need to.
    Serving sizes per meal include 3–4 oz of protein, 1/2 cup of grains, 1/2 cup of fruit or one small piece, and 1 cup of vegetables/2 cups of leafy greens.
  • Prepare a Meal Plan: Eating the right meal is a way to a healthy life. A meal plan is your blueprint to achieve that great health. This plan not only allows you to combine varieties but can also allow you to see and plan each of your choices correctly. You can feel confident that what you’re eating each day meets your new healthier life. Writing a meal plan can also help you have a more organized grocery list.

Regular strength training can help build lean muscle mass and reduce your risk of osteoporosis.  Include 1–3 days of strength training each week for 20 minutes per session.
  • Avoid Smoking: Health authorities have warned that smokers are liable to die young. Continuous use of tobacco products and smoking can be hazardous to your health leading to a variety of diseases ranging from lung disease to kidney failure.
  • Manage stress: Physical and mental stress can inhibit your progress towards living a healthier life. Stress has a lot of side effects which include: headache, depression, fatigue, heart attack, acid reflux, and reduced immunity. Practice yoga, meditation, listening to music, and other light exercises that can help you destress.
  • Get more sleep: Sleeping adequately will help you feel more rested and ready to face the day in the morning. It gives your body more time to rejuvenate itself as well! This is when your body repairs itself on a cellular level. It is recommended that one should get 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

Just like people work from the comfort of their homes and still earn a living, so also healthy living can be practiced at home.
