How to unlock sabc channels on dstv

If you own a DStv and wish to unlock SABC channels then read carefully through this article. Be sure to follow the instructions as the procedure is a little bit technical and any mistake could lead to a different result than what you intended.

By now, you already know that DStv comes with various packages that require you to pay for subscriptions before you can begin to enjoy the interesting channels. But aside from that, you could unlock SABC channels and enjoy them free of charge.

How to Unlock SABC Channels on DStv

For a DStv dish using the IS20 satellite setting, here is what you need to do:

  1. On your remote control menu, press the blue button.
  2. Select settings and then choose “satellite settings”.
  3. From “Satellite settings”, select “Additional Network”
  4. There are 5 additional networks numbered 1-5, read carefully to make changes to the network settings to avoid mistakes.
  5. On Network Number 1, simply replace the “yes” with a ‘no” and save.
  6. On Network Number 2, the frequency should be set to 11614 0r 11170. Set the Symbol rate to 28750, FEC should be 3/4 and Polarisation is to be set to be vertical or horizontal. After this has been set, apply scan all.
  7. On Network Number 3, the frequency should be set to 12562. Set the Symbol rate to 30000, Modulation is to be set as DVB-S2, FEC should be 5/6, and Polarisation is set to be horizontal. After this has been set, apply scan all.
  8. On Network Number 4, the frequency should be set to 12522. Set the Symbol rate to 27500 or 30000, FEC should be 3/4 and Polarisation is to be set to be horizontal. After this has been set, apply scan all.
  9. On Network Number 5, the frequency should be set to 12633 0r 12657 for sound. Set the Symbol rate to 16166 or 4883 for sound, FEC should be 5/6 and Polarisation is to be set to be vertical. After this has been set, apply scan all.
  10. Once you are done, change from “My DStv channels” to “All Channels” and then press 100, and scroll left to see all the channels coming before channel 100. Note that the added channels have four digits.
